Big Screen Buzz: Upcoming Movies to Watch in 2025

2025 is set to bring some major titles to the big screen, and it’s set to be an exciting year in film. One of the most anticipated releases is How to Train Your Dragon, a live-action retelling of the 2010 animated hit. Based on the book by Cressida Cowell, this new version is from DreamWorks and directed by Dean DeBlois, who also worked on the animated trilogy. Mason Thames and Nico Parker play the lead roles, while Gerard Butler returns as Stoick the Vest. Filming began in Belfast and wrapped in May, making it DreamWorks Animation’s first live-action film. The original composer, John Powell, also returned to score the film.
Another film that’s making waves is Ballerina, which is part of the John Wick universe. Directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatton, this chapter stars Ana de Armas as Eve Makaro - a dancer who seeks justice for her father turned murderer. The film will also see the return of familiar faces like Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston and Keanu Reeves, while Lance Reddick will also make his final appearance. Packed with high action and deep emotions, the film promises to add a new edge to the franchise.
Bollywood fans can look forward to Housefull 5, a mystery-comedy set on a luxury cruise. The murder of a wealthy man turns the trip into chaos as every character becomes a suspect. What is unique is that the film has two different endings - Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B. Starring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt, and directed by Tarun Mansukhani, the film blends suspense and humor in the classic Housefull style.
On the darker side of cinema, Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17 delves into deeper themes using science fiction. Robert Pattinson plays multiple versions of the same man, a disposable worker who is brought back through cloning. The film touches on power, identity and survival while maintaining Bong’s signature blend of drama and sharp wit. Finally, horror fans can look forward to Nosferatu, where Robert Eggers brings back the creepy vampire tale in a bold new way. Lily-Rose Depp plays a woman caught between her husband and a demonic force, while Bill Skarsgård steps into the haunting role of Count Orlok with a new, disturbing twist.

DreamWorks cast the main cast in May 2023. More cast members were announced in January 2024. Filming began in Belfast, Northern Ireland in January 2024. They wrapped filming in May. The film is also the first live-action film produced by DreamWorks Animation.
Mickey 17
Bong Joon Ho never makes boring films, but sometimes he makes strange ones that are still entertaining. This English space tale feels more like his dark train film Snowpiercer than his hit Parasite - but it still has sharp jokes and strong social messages. The Korean director takes the idea of a man who agrees to have his memory preserved so he can come back to life multiple times, and uses it to talk about cloning, racism and old colonial power. Robert Pattinson proves once again that he is one of the boldest actors alive today as he plays both versions of Mickey, who people treat like they can throw away.
Ballerina
Ballerina is a 2025 American action-thriller film directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatton. The film is the fifth film in the John Wick series, following John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). The film stars Ana de Armas, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick (in his last film), Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves. The story follows Eve Makaro (de Armas), a dancer who becomes an assassin and fights other assassins to avenge her father's death.
Nosferatu
Robert Eggers makes a dark world that gives fresh life to one of the oldest horror stories. He stays close to FW Murnau’s 1922 take on Dracula, but the look of the film feels big and spooky. He uses lights, shadows, and huge sets to pull people into the strange mood. Lily-Rose Depp shows strong body work as a woman stuck between her man and her scary dream lover. Max Shreck still feels the creepiest, but Bill Skarsgård plays Count Orlok in a way that feels more like a real man and more gross at the same time.
Housefull 5
Story talks about a rich man who gets killed on a big cruise ship. When police come to check the murder, they see everyone as a suspect. Movie shows two different ends, named Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B. Housefull 5 has Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Sonam Bajwa, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sanjay Dutt, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangada Singh, Nana Patekar, Fardeen Khan and Dino Morea as main stars. Tarun Mansukhani directed the movie, and Sajid Nadiadwala and Firuzi Khan produced it. Movie runs for 2 hours and 45 minutes.
